Our research focus is on improving the clinical application of dialysis and blood purification procedures in various indications such as kidney disease and transplantation, liver failure or septic shock. Our most important research topics include first clinical applications of innovative adsorber products, further developments of albumin dialysis procedures and diagnostics based on albumin binding capacity.

A significant part of our research takes place within the framework of research dialysis and in the Fraunhofer Project Group Extracorporeal Therapy Systems (EXTHER), which is affiliated with the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) in Leipzig. The laboratories and offices of these groups are located on the campus grounds of the BMFZ, Schillingallee 68. The director is Prof. Dr. Steffen Mitzner.
